Vania Mia Chaker | The Personal Side
In addition to her professional endeavors, Vania enjoys charity and community involvement, spending time with family and friends, and serving on the board for the Stanford Alumni Association. She also enjoys wine tasting, interior design, creating healthy recipes, and various remodeling projects on her home. Her next project? A vertical garden installation to grow fresh herbs - for her kitchen and to help create healthy meals. Basil, rosemary, and thyme add flavor and dimension to Osso Bucco and slow cooked lamb stews and beef roasts. Freshly-picked mint, orange blossom, and lavender (with honey!) are perfect for infusing tea or craft cocktails. Meyer Lemon, Passionfruit, and Persian Lime are healthy, versatile, and pretty to grow in oversized patio planters for a backyard garden. (Hint: Passionfruit makes a delicious puree to pair with any dessert.) Vania says the key is to keep things fresh, simple and healthy! Chino Farms in Rancho Santa Fe and The Grove in LA are amongst her favorite places for finding specialty produce, fresh herbs, and edible flowers for a bit of presentation flair! Wine flights are the perfect way to enjoy each course. Some suggestions: Moet & Chandon Rose Champagne as an aperitif with a plate of warmed brie, honey, pistachios and assorted berries; Opus One Cabernet Sauvignon with filet mignon, pureed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms; and Cockburns ruby port as a digestif with a warmed molten chocolate cake and fresh whipped cream. |

CHIMAERA UNLEASHED⎜
Against a backdrop of stunningly advanced surveillance technology and the strictures of the United States Constitution, the question of how individual privacy comports with the need for police investigation is a complex and impressively difficult one. Judicial vigilance is increasingly important in protecting the appropriate dimensions of individual privacy. The grave risks of governmental abuse may militate in favor of strengthened judicial oversight.
Strong privacy protections, however, may indeed serve to function as a safeguard against the risks of governmental overreach and police misconduct. These are impressively difficult questions which I discuss in this series of law articles. These Chimaera series of law review articles examine the constitutionality of warrantless government searches of private data and monitoring of electronic transmissions using emerging technology. This includes legal analysis and the normative implications of such governmental policies. I certainly hope that you enjoy my articles on Privacy, Emerging Technology, Cyber Law, and Constitutional Law.
